Fighters and Armory

Meetings will be Saturdays, 12:00 at my house at 445 N 300 East.

General Info:

…..Welcome to the Fighters’ page! If you’re interested in bashing some heads in (in the most polite way possible, of course), then you’re at the right place. Currently in club, we recognize 2 official forms of fighting (i.e. we have paperwork with Risk Management), and are reviewing a third.

…..The first is generally termed ‘light fighting’, or fencing SCA-style. Throw on some thick garb, a bit of cheap safety gear, and stab at your opponent. Good fun, and it’s easy to start up in.

…..The second style is generally termed ‘heavy’ or ‘hardsuit’ fighting. This involves thick armor (think knight in shining plate armor) and rattan (bamboo) weaponry. This obviously requires more gear, more dedication, and more willingness to be hit. Rapiers bend, 6 foot bamboo claymores don’t. Although there has been a lag in heavy fighting in years past, we’re making a go of reviving it this year.

…..So, another focus of Fighters’ guild is Armory. While we have bits and pieeces of armor in the Armory, bits that fit the honorable Kat or the revered St. Sabine don’t fit, say, guys like me or Aedo. So, we will be making armor this year for interested individuals. Just as a forewarning, DON’T MAKE ARMOR IF YOU DON’T LIKE GETTING WAILED ON. If you don’t know, we can procure something that will fit well enough, and you can find out.

…..Huzzah! We now have links for handy, UNAFFILIATED (frikkin’ B***A… mutter, mutter, mutter) sites. Many of these are in PDF format, so if you don’t have it already, you’ll need Adobe Reader or some other PDF compatible program if you want to read them.

The following very closely mirror our policies concerning rapier(light) and armored(heavy) combat. Sure, you could dig through university records over at Risk Management, but this is much more convenient for the casual reader. Where applicable, look at Artemesia standards.

Rapier

Rapier Combat Handbook – Revised 7/06, includes appendices 1-4

Appendix 5 – Blade Types and Conventions – Revised 7/06 Rapier Combat guidelines

Heavy

Marshals ‘ Handbook – Revised March 2007 (incorporates updated Rules of the List, Authorization Procedures, Armor Requirements and Weapon Standards)
